Dave, very interesting stuff, especially the stuff about Brad Rubin and City Diner trying to adjust to new realities, and how his new concept deli might be the future of delis. I think this might be the only way the deli might survive. The question is, how does a traditionalist like yourself feel about that prospect?

Please don’t waste your time on 11 city, food is not that good and owner is the rudest guy on earth! Make sure your entire party is there when you go or be prepared to have a verbal lashing from Bradley! Dude learn some manners…it’s goes a LONG way!!!

Brad is a threat to himself and to others and should be medicated. I saw him even force a cancer survivor to stand up twice after her pleas of feeling dizzy! He physically and verbally abuses his employees and patrons. Search “Yelp” and you’ll see him lash out at elderly, sadistically escalate arguments of fathers in front of their families, insult mothers of young children in the presence of the children, chase people out the restaurant, use foul language, and torment people. BOYCOTT!

I recently moved to Chicago from New York and finding a good Jewish stlyle deli has been difficult. Eleven City Diner is a great old school deli with the added plus of a big diner menu.

I’m a sucker for good matzo ball soup and I have searched the neighborhood high and low — this one (served in the style of one big matzo ball) does not disappoint. And the corned beef & pastrami hash scrambled eggs really hits the spot. I always have it with the freshly squeezed OJ.

Eleven City is a bustling place with a comfortable modern retro atmosphere, which makes me feel at home. I love the long diner counter and corner candy store. The guy who runs the place, Brad, and the waitstaff, are friendly with a touch of NY attitude, which is a big draw for a transplant like myself. Highly rated.

Identifying it is the hardest part, but I agree with your conclusion. I am going to do some research and post it here for clarity. Stay tuned and I’ll be back with the info. I have been coming to Chicago for the past year, once a month, to see my fiance. I can’t be in Chicago for more than 30 minutes without my way straight to 11 City Diner. Weither I am hungry or not. Brad you have done an amazing job, and I love your place. I see all these comments about him being rude and food being bad. I have never once seen him or his staff be rude to me or anyone else, and the food is to die for. I come from a food city as well, so I know what I am talking about. Brad if you ever read this, Its Jared from Kansas City. Thanks for the T-shirt and coffee mug, 11 City Diner is apart of my life if I am in Chicago or not!!! SAVE THE DELI!!!

I found brad rubin to be very rude and disrespectful. Not only to me the guest but also to his staff in front of me. He put me very on edge, when I was just there to relax and enjoy myself. Any self respecting person please stay clear of 11 city diner.
