Yes folks, what you see there is a real book version of Save the Deli. That’s my words, and images, on chopped up trees, arranged in a nicely packaged, handheld commodity. Mmmmm…analog.
But wait, you say, doesn’t Save the Deli come out on October 19th (or the 20th for Canada)?
Yes, that’s still true, and no, you can’t get your hands on this. What you are looking at is photos of a galley. When a book is being published, the publisher assembles rough copies, called “galleys”, for the purpose of publicity, promotion, etc… They are softbound, slightly rough drafts, printed on lesser quality paper with lower resolution photos, for the purpose of spreading the word to the media and other notable, powerful, and influential parties. They’re expensive (much more than a regular book to produce), and so the publisher has only entrusted me with two copies. One for me. And one for my girlfriend (because she had to put up with me, and still does).
But still, it’s a book! A real book!
Very exciting indeed. Soon you’ll all get to buy and hold your own copies, which, I assure you, will be much nicer than this (including a different cover photo and design, that I showed you all here).
