Loved your article on the Roumanian steakhouses. In your home town of Toronto you may recall a restaurant called “House Of Chan” in the Bathurst-Eglinton neighborhood. Despite its name, it served the best steaks in the city, along with Chinese food if you really wanted it. That made it a real haven for the Jews. It was established by an ex-pharmacist, Irv Howard (ne Horowitz) and an old friend of my parents. I remember my father taking me there once and Irv Howard instructed me on the proper way to eat a steak - let it cool a bit before you bite in. Because it was located in the Forest Hill area, it was frequented by the big machers in town with their wives draped in furs and jewels. But in your article you mention similar restaurants that now exist in Toronto. I am curious to know which ones you mean. All the best.
